FPI Banyuwangi refused the title of the festival Gandrung Sewu. The Festival is planned to be featuring thousands of dancers Gandrung Dance in Boom Beach in Banyuwangi.
“We respect each other alone. Because there is no sin in Gandrung Sewu this,” said the Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar) Banyuwangi Muhammad Yanuar Bramuda told afp on Thursday (18/10/2018).
Despite the rejection, the Festival Gandrung Sewu remain will be held on Thursday (20/10). This Festival will attract both domestic and foreign.
Bramuda said, Gandrung Dance already recognized world is the original dance of Banyuwangi. This Festival also introduced the Gandrung Dance to a wider audience again.
Judging from its origins, Gandrung Dance was long known to the people of Banyuwangi. Looks of his clothes, Dance Gandrung much influenced the culture of Bali during the Kingdom of Blambangan.
The kingdom of Blambangan himself stood in the 16th century which is the last Hindu kingdom in Java Island. The kingdom was centered in the tip of the Island of Java.

Bramuda explained, this year, the festival Gandrung Sewu theme ‘Screen Kumendung’. The audience not only will witness the splendor of the dance, but also fragments of a drama of heroism that accompanies it. This show involves a total of 1173 dancer, 64 viewer fragments, and 65 musicians.
“In this show the choreography of the dance will be interspersed with fragments of Screen drama Kumendung with a ratio of 70 percent dances and 30 percent of the fragments. Guaranteed performances Gandrung Sewu will be more interesting,” said Bramuda.
